This training equips those experienced and those new to economic development to take action to keep and win quality jobs in today’s fierce competition. The morning starts with an engaging, straight forward and often funny workshop for Elected and Appointed Officials titled Investment to Crank Your Job Engine. All participants in the training also attend this morning session as it provides the economic development team a best practice approach to job retention and attraction. Elected and Appointed Officials are encouraged to stay for the rest of the training and join the BusinessFirst! Team in interactive workshops.
This training holds participants’ attention, enables individuals to apply new approaches, builds confidence and competence, shares best practices and provides practical tools that can be used immediately. During the workshops and in the days following the training, participants will be actively involved in demonstrating the skills that winning economic development teams need in this market.

BusinessFirst! needs volunteers to meet with companies during its first Business Walk of 2017 in Germantown. The walk will be held Thursday, July 13, from 10:00am-12:00pm.
Business walks are an opportunity to touch small and medium-sized companies and provide them with information about new programs and services, as well as local community events.
If you are interested in volunteering but cannot make the event in Germantown, don’t worry. BusinessFirst! is planning a more walks later this year.

County Corp Development is a small business lending resource helping small businesses in our region expand. We provide low fixed interest rate long term loans for investments in real estate and equipment. Partnering with local lending institutions, we help small businesses reduce the required cash equity to expand. A sampling of recent loan approvals from County Corp Development include the following businesses: a food service franchise, a child day care provider, a manufacturer of composite building products, an optometrist, and an automobile dealer. All of these businesses pursued financing from County Corp Development to lower their required cash equity to get their project completed, and to reduce their project interest expense cost.

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is the largest business organization in the Dayton, Ohio region, serving 2,400 business members in nine counties. We are a trade association of businesses, professionals and individuals focused on three core competency areas: government advocacy, economic development and member services.
In 2018, the chamber launched “Empower”, an innovative new initiative to excel women business leaders in the Dayton region. The program will use in-depth leadership workshops combined with engaging day-sessions, business coaching and an extensive network of training support to help participants identify individual leadership strengths, values and goals, develop a personal brand and eliminate barriers to advancement.
Also in 2018, The chamber also relaunched DaytonWorkforce.com, a workforce portal that provides economic data, career forecasting information for seven in-demand industries, and an asset map of regional tools to better align the area’s workforce capabilities with business hiring needs.

BusinessFirst! program was created to be a resource for all of our communities and their businesses.
The tornados affected large areas of our communities and the BusinessFirst! team is currently working on several aspects of business outreach to area businesses that have been impacted by the disaster.
Our goal is to work with the communities from a coordination standpoint of outreach, collecting critical information, sharing what they are learning thus far from their businesses, and linking the right resources to them based on their immediate needs.

Our second Disaster Recovery Business Walk will focus on businesses in the City of Trotwood. The walk will be on Wednesday, June 26 from 1-5pm. We will be meeting at the City of Trotwood Government Offices, 3035 Olive Rd # 2, Trotwood, OH 45426, where we will split into teams and get information packets.
If you are interested in joining the Business Walk group, let me know. If you are only available for a couple of hours, we can work you in as well.
Communities, volunteer organizations, and individuals have been working hard to help local businesses and residents recover from the tornado damage over the last few weeks. Many businesses are back up and running now, thanks in part to the work of their local economic development and city staffs. It’s important to reach out to these businesses again and see how their recovery is going and get a better understanding of the economic impact the storms had on our businesses and their employees.
Wear comfortable shoes and if there is a chance of rain you may want to have an umbrella handy. Let me know if you are available to join us. If you have any questions, please call me on my cell phone 937-776-3017. Thanks!

It is official, the very first BusinessFirst! Business Walk in Huber Heights is confirmed for Thursday, September 12th. Thank you Jason for the opportunity to work with you and the City of Huber Heights on this.
Business Walks are an opportunity to briefly meet with businesses to find out how they’re doing and let them know about resources and programs available and more importantly discover how we can assist them if needed. They are also an opportunity to say “Thank you” for being in Huber Heights.

Join us on Tuesday, January 14 from 9:30-11 for the first BF! Outreach Specialist meeting of 2020! We are going to meet at COhatch Fairborn (305 West Main Street, Fairborn, OH 45324).
There is a parking lot behind the building for people.
We are still finalizing the agenda, and will send more information as it comes together.
